 | Why are the letters ELL next to my name? It means that the students I
work with are English Language Learners. My job as an ELL teacher has
changed a lot in the nine years I've been teaching at Webster. For the
first 6 years, the ELL students came to my classroom as one of their
enrichment classes but now I go into classrooms and coteach with two
1st grade teachers and two 2nd grade teachers.
Teaching children
from a variety of cultures feels like a perfect fit for me after
spending almost a decade traveling and living around the world. In
villages from India to Malawi, children would gather around me with
eager curiosity and we would learn to communicate | 651-293-8625

could say those were my first ELL students. Traveling and interacting
with all kinds of people gave me more of an
|
education than any
classroom could, but I have been in many classrooms througout the
years.
Before I left to explore
the world I got a BA in Speech-Communication from the University of MN
and after I returned from eight years abroad I went to the University
of WI where I recieved a BS in Elementary Education. Since then I
finished a master's degree at the U of M with a license to teach
ELL.
It's very rewarding to create and deliver meaningful
curriculum with other professionals in this new collaboration model. I
have the pleasure of working everyday with Sara Gramer, Tiffany Loesch,
Jane Opine, and Sarah Anderson, and two times a week with Tracie
Sandin-Osvold. We have been working hard at making Writer's Workshop a
time when all students learn to organize and express ideas and share
information. |
